The Earth-Guardian of the Playa and of the World

¡AXOLOTL! The Earth-Guardian is a monumental, mobile art installation & soundstage promoting creativity, ecological preservation & regeneration.

In August 2017 at the Burning Man festival, a dedicated team of makers operating under the banner of 'La Calaca Village' and supported by an growing international community unveiled a dramatically improved ¡AXOLOTL!.

Inspired by a endangered and extraordinary amphibian unique to lake Xochimilco in Mexico City—a creature which has thankfully survived the decimation of its natural habitat because its powers of physical regeneration are contributing genetic secrets crucial to Stem Cell research—this art car and concert stage is both a dramatic platform for performances and a powerful symbol of ecological preservation and the connection between all living things.

Since its debut in 2016, the ¡AXOLOTL! team has made dramatic improvements, including a bi-level steel 'howdah' viewing platform with dancing poles and tailored gypsy decoration, improved programmable led light array system, new interior art and illumination, and a 8000+ watt onboard 'booth' QSC audio system. We achieved these improvements, but we need our community to help us cover the costs and continue to bring the Axolotl to the public—so please join us and help!
