Our Camp

A camp called Friendly Society became the third “barrio” in our La Calaca Village in 2022. Welcome Friendlies!

"Our goal in leading this offshoot is to create a unique experience that is more akin to the raw, mini-camp experience that some of us had at the unofficial Renegade Burn in 2021. Friendly Society currently consists of a dozen people and aims to host ~20 people in its first year. We welcome friends who prefer a Burn experience that is deliberately infrastructure-lite and is built on super radical self-reliance, with a pack-it-in, pack-it-out mentality.

Friendly Society will not have a strict theme – campers are encouraged to invoke their creative energies to manifest anything that they can imagine and mobilize resources to build in this new white space. We will form the third side of our Village shared space with a multi-purpose structure called the Imagination Station, with designs to host on different occasions: a sausage stand, a complaints box, a comedy stage, misfortune telling, and a tribute to the Village’s Mexican heritage.

We have also offered to take responsibility for organizing and managing vehicle parking for everyone in the Village. Once a critical mass of commitments to join are established, this group will begin to coordinate to identify goals and priorities (e.g. shade, food, water, art) and solve how to achieve those goals for an optimal Burn experience…“
