La Calaca is Burning Man village made up of three camps: La Calaca, Piñata’s Revenge, and Circ de Tamales.
Together we offer mystical experiences that welcome all brands of travelers.
La Calaca Village—founded in 2013—is made up of family and friends from around the world. With roots in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Reno, Amarillo, San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City, Mexico, our village is inspired by Mexican culture and the espiritu of that great land, its people and its robust traditions. Our name "La Calaca"—which means "The Skeleton" in Spanish—comes from our association with the La Calaca Festival, a participatory arts festival that takes place in San Miguel during Day of the Dead each year.
Our village projects are all activated by the powerful muses of ancestry, Mother Earth and the wisdom and grace of natural healing.
Our Day of the Dead Procession brings a glimpse of that revered Mexican Holiday to the Playa.
Axolotl—The Earth Guardian—is our art car and sound stage, and features international DJs and live music. Axolotls are regenerative amphibians from Lake Xochomilco in Mexico City, and we are currently raising awareness of this creature and its endangerment.
The Healing Dome is our renowned treatment center, where our trained practitioners provide care through various therapies.
We pride ourselves on radical inclusion and we both welcome and mentor satellite camps who share our open-hearted and open-minded philosophy. As we continue to grow and explore, we welcome everyone to stop by and visit our ever-evolving, loving community.
PLEASE NOTE: This site is still a work-in-progress. Information is being updated and you’ll see temporary text in a number of places. We’re publishing it while we continue to work on it, so thanks for understanding!
